The President of Liberia, Her Excellency Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has commended Liberians in Minnesota for being good citizens.

The OLM’s mission is to serve the interests of nearly 25,000 Liberian immigrants in the state of Minnesota by providing a sense of community and serving as a bridge to the larger society to enable personal and community development.
Dr. Yaskey Elected
New Board Chair
Dr. Clarence Yaskey, a medical doctor, has been elected new Board Chair. Dr. Yaskie was chosen January 3, 2010 by Board members during their regular meeting. He replaces Mr. John Tarley.
Dr. Yaskey is a trained medical doctor. He is a 1989 graduate of the Achilles Mario Dogliotti College of Medicine, University of Liberia.He did his internship and residency at the JFK Medical Center in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa.
During the Liberian Civil War, he worked for Medecins sans Frontieres (“Doctors without borders”) from 1992 – 2000. He served in different capacities, including Medical Director of the Swedrelief Hospital, Project Physician and lastly headed the entire MSF Monrovia Project.
He did Sports Medicine courses/training through the International Olympics Organization and FIFA. Dr. Yaskie served as the Physician of Liberia’s Senior National Soccer Team until he immigrated to the US.
Presently, he works for Ramsey County Adult Mental Health in St. Paul, Minnesota and is pursuing getting into a residency/specialization program.

OLM Board Meets
Minneapolis Mayor
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota, Dr. Clarence Yaskey, has appealed to Minneapolis Mayor, R.T. Rybak, to assist in the extension of Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians. Dr. Yaskey said the extension will allow those Liberians on DED to stay in the US for additional 18 months.
