Mrs. Margaret Toweh, a member of the Board of Directors of the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota, has reacted sharply to allegation that she gave the interview questions to one of the candidates for the post of Executive Director. Mrs. Toweh has accordingly issued a press release to set the record straight. Below is the full text of that release.
“The Press Release of the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota Nominating Committee published March 15, 2010 said it all.
The inclusion of our name in a press publication in the Liberian Journal alleging that we leaked out interview questions to an applicant under consideration for the Executive Director position for the OLM is not only viewed and considered as character assassination but also intended to damage the honest and good reputation we have built over the years as public servant.
We want to let our detractors and perpetrators of such negative propaganda know thatwe are resolved and every ready to serve the Liberian people in the face of such “Yellow Journalism or Petit Jealously.”
Nevertheless, we want to point out here that we are very surprised at Board Member Henry Kesselly, who is the center of this negatively crafted assertion, decision of refusing to exonerate himself from the scandal or give his confirmed source of the allegation on the ground that he is a politician so he cannot undo what was not done properly.
Despite his vehement denial, we find it very much troubling to understand why wouldn’t he want to distant himself from such baseless and unfounded allegations, by giving his source, if we as Board Members are to move the OLM to the next higher level in the spirit of teamwork and clear conscience for the Liberian people.
We are aware that some individuals will do all that they can to paint black the golden characters of others for reasons best known to them. Be reminded that we live in a country of laws and such baseless character assassination is punishable by laws.
To the publisher, The Liberian Journal, we have least expected you to verify and authenticate information given to you regarding a third party before publication was already out as evidenced by Mrs. Toweh’s phone log. We do not know what your intentions or the intentions of the perpetrators are but we promise that the next occurrence will be met with legal action to give you the chance to prove your allegation.
